Zoom vs Prime Lenses Follow
Zoom lenses have a variable focal length. This would be indicated by multiple focal lengths in the name of the lens, or on the lens itself. (ex 70-200mm)
Prime lenses are a fixed focal length that does not move or shift at all. Prime lenses in most cases also allow for faster, lower apertures (example: 35mm)
Zoom lenses also tend to be slightly heavier as there are more components in order for the zooming mechanism to function. Prime lenses will generally be lighter and more compact.
